Bible in 365: Day 138

2 Samuel 19-21

There are some really crazy things that happen in today’s reading.

My favorite person today was the wise woman of the town Abel Beth Maakah who approached Joab and prevented her entire city from being destroyed, that is after she had the people of the town throw Sheba’s head over the wall to Joab.

I guess I like this story (well, I like all the parts except the head flying over the wall part…that is a bit gruesome) because it shows how one person’s actions can truly impact many, many people.  I am sure her town was forever grateful for her wise advice.  She literally saved them from destruction.

Who do you know that has impacted hundreds, maybe thousands of lives?  Immediately, I begin thinking about all the teachers I had in school as I grew up.  Some of those teachers impacted me in positive ways they will never know.  Who knows how many kids’ lives they touch every day?

This makes me think very proudly of my husband, who is a band director for an intermediate school.  I am so proud of him for the work he does.  He is impacting the lives of hundreds of kids every school year (without ever having to cut off anyone’s head :-) ).  Keep up the great work Doug!

I would love for you to share which part of today’s reading you found most fascinating (or just plain weird).

Once again, chapters I’d never read or heard the stories of.

And yes the whole cutting off of Sheba’s head was just plain weird. But so was David’s giving the Gibeonites the male relatives of Saul.

Yes, that part was odd too. I must say that I am glad to be living in the current time period and not back when David was king.
