Isaiah 31-34
Sometimes I am not sure what “Zion” refers to, but in today’s reading, it really sounds like heaven to me.
“No one living in Zion will say, ‘I am ill’; and the sins of those who dwell there will be forgiven.” (Isaiah 33:24) What a glorious picture of things to come! Doesn’t this sound wonderful to you?
Does anyone else have any thoughts on “Zion?” I guess I have never really had it explained to me.
In a way, I suppose we have heaven on earth when we forgive the sins of others (easier said than done), just as God forgives our sins.

Well, I guess since Zion is actually another word for Jerusalem (Mount Zion area), the first half of Isaiah is talking about a punishment – a covenant is broken, but then the second half is talking about it being restored where God dwells, a tent that can’t be moved – where he is dwelling and protecting. Once again, God is delivering his people. Your uncle says when Isaiah is writing, he is talking about Judah and the first half is about a covenant is rejected/broken and sent to exile. The second half restored and brought back. Not sure if talking past tense or a second time when Jesus returns and they are protected from everything. But once he lives with them and protects them – no illness, forgiveness and protection.

Thanks, that clears it up a bit for me.

That last sentence of mine should say… – no illness, but forgiveness and protection are theirs.”

I personally loved 33:22 – “For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us.” The Lord is the one who is judge, jury, king, lawyer, and all of that will be led to savior. Kinda nice to think about.
