Bible in 365: Day 352

Titus
I think today’s reading is summed up in one of the last few verses of the book. “Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.” (Titus 3:14)
On this Christmas Day (and every day), may this be our focus: doing good to others. If we truly lived this out every day, what a blessing we would be! This is the same message so beautifully portrayed in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (though I must confess I am a huge fan of the Muppets movie version).
If we are uncertain what this looks like, the earlier chapters in the book give some specific recommendations depending on your situation. There are instructions to church leaders, older women, younger women, older men, younger men, slaves (in our day, think about how we serve the bosses and leaders who are over us in our jobs or volunteer activities), and everyone in general.
Some general instructions include:
- Be subject to rulers and authorities
- Be obedient
- Do good
- Do not slander
- Be peaceable
- Be considerate
- Be gentle
There is so much good to be done. What are we waiting for? Let us go out and seize every opportunity to help others!

I thought the last few verses also summed up the book. Do good. And keep on doing good.
